The Breakfast Club - Spitalfields

The Breakfast Club, Spitalfields

Last night we headed out for a spot of dinner at The Breakfast Club, Artillery Lane. Dinner you say? At the breakfast club? Indeed my friends, you heard me right – dinner. I’ve been for breakfast before, and delicious it is too, one of the best in the city I’d say, but I’d never for dinner. Time to give it a try I thought and to be honest this place should be called the breakfast, lunch and dinner club because it was great.

Nachos

Hearty, honest diner-style grub, which had us happily chomp our way through two courses. To start, nachos with refried beans and all the usual toppings (£8). A decent portion for four to share and enough topping that we weren’t all fighting over the last bean. I love nachos but they’re no good when they’re not done well – the rapidity with which these flew out the kitchen I was wary but actually given the queues this place is used to I’m guessing the kitchen staff are just great at what they do. The nachos were lovely.

Big Bad Burrito

For main I had the Big Bad Burrito with chicken (which our very friendly waitress recommended) filled with rice and served with guacamole, sour cream and salsa (£9.90) Good strong flavours and a really decent size, I couldn’t fault it.

Cow vs. Pig burger

My fellow diners opted for the Cow vs. Pig burger, a monster of a burger but absolutely delicious (£10). Beef burger topped with pulled pork and cheese, what’s not to love? They managed to devour it all but were pretty defeated by the end – but then isn’t that the sign of a good burger? The chips were another plus – crispy, skin-on fries, which were completely moreish - it’s great to find a place where the chips are as good as the burger. The only thing that let the plate down was the coleslaw, just a bit bland but hey you can’t have it all.

I’d asked for a milkshake to drink but the waitress told me they’d stopped serving them by the time we ate – how is it possible that a breakfast joint stops serving milkshake?! So I went for the ice tea, which was lovely. We had to give pudding a miss because we were so full but I’m sure they would be just as good.

Ice Tea

This is a great place for a relaxing dinner with your friends – quirky and reasonably priced. They have several branches around town and hallelujah they’re opening another in London Bridge in May. If you go to the Spitalfields branch check out the Smeg fridge – it will completely surprise you!
